Please contact Head Coach William Kipp for 2024-25 Golf Season information.
I am going to put forth the necessary time and effort needed and to do my part to help the golf program succeed. My commitment to the CHS Boys Golf Team is the following:
To manage my time, plan and identify areas of improvement for the team, myself and to keep up with school. I will be an active member of this team, attend and be on time to all practices, games and meetings. I will put forth the highest level effort and be mindful of other team members and coaching staff needs while valuing everyone's time.
I will expect in return that other team members and coaches will commit in the same way to the team and give it the time & effort it demands.
We officially will close our season this week with a COVID friendly closing ceremony reunion where we will celebrate our players and their families by remembering some of our seasons accomplishments and handing out this years certificates of participation.
We will meet at the Vaver's backyard. All players and their families are invited. You will receive an official invite with details soon, but we are thinking Wednesday October 14th starting at 6:30pm. Save the date!
NOTE: Please remember to return any school equipment still on your possession: Range Finders, Rain Jackets, Golf Bags, Stretching STicks.
This week Ryan and coaches Ricardo & Elliot headed down to Colorado Springs for the Boy’s 4A State Championship at the Country Club of Colorado (CCC). The week included a number of great highlights for Ryan.
Sunday’s practice round with Silver Creek was played with three college players from UCCS (who’s home course is CCC) following along and giving tips and information that was invaluable for the tournament. They also spoke high praises during the round for Ryan’s game, swing and attitude...a huge compliment to Ryan.
Monday and day one got off to a flying start when Ryan sank a 25ft putt birdie on his first hole. He was off and running from there fighting through some bad bounces and tough lip outs to shoot a 3-over 48 on his first nine. Unfettered Ryan counties his strong play onto the back nine, making stress free pars and climbing the leaderboard to a tie for 5th place. But a bad break found him plugged into the lip of a bunker which lead to a double bogey. Day one saw Ryan finish with a 9-over 80 and in a tie for 16th place.
Day two did not get off with a birdie bang, but a strong start nonetheless the less. With a bad break but great recovery for bogey on hole three and a kick in birdie on hole six, Ryan found himself even after six holes and climbing the leaderboard again. Unfortunately the same trouble hole from day one struck again and after a few tough bounces, Ryan holes out for an 8. But with extreme focus Ryan bounced back to make two pars to finish out the front nine at a 4-over 40. Focused on playing his “favorite side of the two” Ryan played some strong golf on the back, which included a very good birdie on the par 3 17th hole in front of a gallery of some 50-60 people to shoot a 37 and finish the tournament with a 157 (80-77) good enough for a solo 16th place finish and likely 2nd team All State. An incredible result for someone playing in his first high school state championship.
This Golfer is a great example of what hard work and dedication can achieve and with two of his best rounds of golf the coaches have seen him play this year on a very difficult course, he represented Centaurus High School admirably. Well done Ryan!
... Centaurus senior Ryan Vaver shot a 77 on the second day to finish 16th. He birdied 17 and parred 18 to close out his career.
“I was looking for top-20, top-10 on a good round,” he said. “I think I accomplished my goals.”
And Beat the Coach Challenge
On Sunday October 4th, we will be playing a practice round of golf at the Country Club of Colorado in Colorado Springs, where we will be playing our State Tournament on Monday and Tuesday, October 5th and 6th.
We still have no specific plan on when and where we will be gathering for a closing ceremony... Stay Tuned.
As our final event of the year the team played against the coaches in a scramble format event. The teams were:
Team A: Matthew V / Asa / Jeffrey / Will
Team B: Ryan / Logan / Owen / Matthew G (DNP), and
Coaches Team: Ricardo / Bill / Elliott who were also joined by AD Emmy.
The teams jostled for position much of the day with lots of birdies and an unfortunate bogey here or there. In the end the coaches had the chance to birdie one of the last three holes to win the title, but only could walk away with par on each hole.
In the end, all three teams tied at -6. Team A may have some claim to a missed covid cup putt...but if the ball isn’t in the hole, it isn’t in the hole. Good playing to everyone and well done on a good season.
Our State Championship preparation consisted playing 18 holes at Colorado National GC, Murphy Creek GC and Riverdale Dunes GC on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday respectively. Knowing that at this stage of the season, there is nothing more we can to to change his game for next week's tournament, we focused in keeping his skills sharp and invited Ryan to play with each of the coaches with the goal that he sees three different styles and approaches to the game, and to broaden his understanding of the game.
Its in our DNA - Family is the best motivator you will have and is there from the beginning and throughout your lives. So remember to stay involved and to be nice to family, friends, and even strangers today because tomorrow you may be on the other side.
Remember that Integrity is more in demand than Intelligence and you’ll be OK”
On Monday September 28th, starting at noon, we'll play our Beat The Coach Challenge, which will officially complete this years season and CHS Boys Golf Team activities.
Team 1: Asa W, Matthew V, Will K, Jeffery S.
Team 2: Ryan V, Owen B, Matthew G, Logan C.
Coaches: Ricardo C, Elliot J, Bill H, Emerald M.

For now, I am taking suggestions are recommendation on how to celebrate and close our season. I propose a date of Thursday October 8th starting at 530p - no location yet.
Note that as of today, the school is not allowing any gatherings, but his may change at any time.
It was an exciting and nerve wracking day Tuesday as the regional team took on Quail Dunes in Fort Morgan. Congratulations to Ryan V for qualifying for state after shooting an 80 and finishing in 15th place. After barely missing state qualification last year, Ryan put in a lot of hard work and grinded out one of his most well-complete rounds of the season to get the job done. He will be playing October 5 & 6th at the Country Club of Colorado with the other 83 best 4A golfers from across Colorado.
Asa finished with an 84 and after an agonizing 90 minutes of waiting, finished one shot outside of the playoff for the final alternate spot. Although a disappointing result, his play gives him a positive outlook and with another year of improvement and hard work, state qualification will be well within reach next year.
Matthew V and Owen, both finished with 90’s to round out the scores on the day. Despite the scores, we were proud of the fight both boys showed after a couple rough holes to start the round, both guys came back and played good golf down the stretch. A mental toughness that was much more reflective of the skill and personality than any score would have been.
As a team we finished 9th in the region.

Boys golf: Silver Creek impresses as Ben Harding wins Windsor tournament
The boys competed in the penultimate league meet at Twin Peaks Monday. Rescheduled after last week's snow storm the team played the familiar course to a 5th place finish. Ryan lead the team with an 8-over 78, a nice bounce back after last weeks uncharacteristic play. He was followed by Matthew V’s 81 and Asa’s 84. All three good enough for top-20 finishes. Owen (89) and Will (91) rounded out the team for the day.
The team finished the regular season Wednesday with a full league meet at Pelican Lakes. Ryan led the team an eight over 80 and t-6 finish, thanks to “some of the longest putts I’ve made back-to-back.” Matthew V also finished in the top 15 with an 83 and “not as many long putts as Ryan.” It was also great to see so many parents out supporting the boys today, we (and the boys) can’t thank you enough for your support through this challenging and different season.
The team finished this week by playing our Internal Championship. This was set up as a handicapped stroke play tournament in order level the playing field and give anyone a chance to win. Additionally, Owen B and Will K played their last week long playoff for the 4th spot for the Regionals Team. All around it was a fun day filled with good golf - event Coach Ricardo and Coach Elliot got a chance to play!

Matthew V and Asa both finished Second Team All-Conference and 13th and 14th overall in the league. And as underclassmen, both players (and our team’s) future is bright for seasons to come.
And as a team we finished 3rd overall in the league! Every player contributed to this great accomplishment and something everyone should be proud of.

Upcoming Regional Tournament
After playing Quail Dunes Golf Course this week I was reminded that the game of golf tests us every time we play and this track, even though it looks inoffensive on paper, proved itself to be a formidable challenge because of its narrow and undulating fairways, small greens and easily reachable out of bounds around the course. - This course will test your most basic and fundamental golf skills.
Monday practice - Holiday
Tuesday Practice - Cancelled due to adverse weather.
Wednesday League Meet #5 - Postponed to September 15th due to adverse weather conditions.
After the crazy weather this week, we were glad to get out and play in the Ft. Morgan Invite at Quail Dunes, the same course regionals will be held at next week. The team was focused much more on learning the course than scoring during the round. As a team the boys finished in 5th place and third out of the 4A teams. Asa lead the team with an 83, good enough for T-7 and Matthew V fired an 86 to finish T-21 and one shot back of a Top 20 placing. Overall the team gathered a lot of valuable information and sight lines to use when we are back there next week with intentions of qualifying as many as we can for the state tournament.

Wednesday: Meade League Meet #5. Everyone Goes
Thursday: Fort Morgan Invite (Varsity Only - 4 Players)
A message from the tournament organizer: There are many teams that will be playing in the regional tournament at Quail Dunes on September 22nd and we want to give you a chance to see most of the tee boxes that will be used. We will use a black and blue mix of tees and the only tees that will be different from regionals will be holes 2, 7, 9, 11 and 14. Those holes will be played from the normal blue tees but for regionals they will be in the black positions.
Over this holiday weekend, give yourself a golf break - a reset -. Don't practice or play, enjoy your family and any special activities you have planned . Come back rested and ready for the last push before regionals - See you Tuesday!
Our fourth league meet was a bit of a up and down affair. Tuesday we played at Broadlands Golf Course to mixed results. After a frustrating round last week, Asa bounced back to shoot a 82, shaving nine strokes off his score from last week. Will also impressed playing a “good 17 holes” and had it not been for a tough final hole, he would have had a stellar round. Despite that, he still shot a season-best tournament score.
The JV team also competed for the second time this season and played to a fifth place finish. It was great to see all the guys out there competing again and gaining valuable tournament experience.
Team (Varsity) Placement: 5rd place (2 shots from 4rd, 9 shots from 3rd)
Individual Placements: Ryan V & Asa W: 8th, Will K: 18th , Owen B: 34th and Matthew V: 37th
Thursday the team played in its first varsity invitational of the year at Pelican Lakes in Windsor. All seven guys* were playing the course for the first time and learned what a stiff test the course is. Asa lead the team with a 9-over 81, improving on his season best from last tournament and Matthew F also beat his season average by 4 with a solid 82. Ryan F contributed our final qualifying score of 82, giving the team a 245 total, good enough for 7th place (out of 24 teams) and 4th place of the 4A schools we’ll be competing against at regionals.
In all the team is moving in the right direction. But with two weeks left to prepare for regionals, crunch time starts now and preparations go into high gear with two more tournaments next week, including an invite next Thursday at Quail Dunes, host of our regional tournament this year.
Game within the game
Asa/Logan: 188
Matthew V/Jeffrey: 179 (WINNERS)
Will/Owen: 189

Windsor Invitational will take place at Pelican Lakes Golf Course on Thursday - 9 am Shotgun - all players attend.
We are entering the second half of our season - can you believe it?! This means that players should start practicing with a focus on creating a confidence that transfers easily into tournament play.
We held our team match play final this week with Matthew V and Will took on Ryan V and Matthew G at Saddleback Golf Course.
Matthew V & Will jumped out to a quick 3 up lead through 3 holes. After some back and forth and halved holes the rest of the front nine, Ryan and Matthew G were able to claw their way back into the match. They fought their way to all square after 10 holes, and setting up a dramatic final 8 holes.
Matthew V and Will, were not deterred however, showing more poise than you would expect from a Fr. and So. After losing their 1-up lead on the the drivable 16th, the young lads won the 17th thanks to a solid 2-putt par from Matthew V. Dormie on 18, despite their best efforts, Ryan and Matthew were unable to overcome the last deficit of the day.
It was an exciting match, congratulations to Matthew V and Will for taking home the championship. And to all four players on delivering a tenacious, well played match.
Congratulations to Ryan V for his 1st place individual finish at our third league tournament this week. Ryan V, Matthew V matched their season averages while Will K bested his season average by 3. Collectively the boys played great team golf, an important stepping stone towards a positive regional showing. After a tough first 10 holes Asa showed resilience on the back side, stringing together five parts to in his words “make sure he did what he could to help the team.” And Will finished with four straight pars to show great composure by a Junior competing in his first varsity event this year.
As a team we finished fourth, a bit of a slip from our previous two meets, but there was much more signs of enthusiasm and signs doing the right things after the round from the team. We are looking forward to our next meet Tuesday at Broadlands as our next opportunity to show off the hard work everyone has been putting in. Thank you all for your efforts.
Team Placement: 4rd place (5 shots from 3rd, 14 shots from 1st)
Individual Placements: Ryan V: 1st, Matthew V: 16th, Will K: 21st, Asa W: 27th, Owen B: 45th
Expecting every shot to be perfect is unrealistic. Accept every shot as comes out.
Expecting to play your best game ever every time you play is not sustainable - adds tension. Striving to match or beat your scoring average is sustainable - invites success.
Knowing that you can get out of any situation, and still make par, will free your mind and shed tension.
Use your imagination - its your best friend!
Golf Happiness = Reality minus expectations
Is common that golf players have unrealistic expectations of their game and/or get upset when they hit anything but a perfect shot... if you can relate to this watch Bob Newhart - 'STOP IT' video.
Playing Practice on Monday August 24th at Saddleback Golf Course.
Tee times at 1:06 pm.
Final Match for Mini Tournament - Two Ball, Best Ball, Match Play.

Both: $130.00
We played our second playing practice on Monday 8/17 and our first round of our mini tournament. During this round of golf, players played with only three clubs of their choice (and a putter) as an exercise intended to teach us course management and in some cases how to play different shots with one club. So as it stands the game played was: Match Play, 2 ball/best ball with three clubs. On the first match Ryan V/Matthew G beat Asa W/Jeffery S with a score of 6&5. The second match Matthew V/Will K overcame Own B/Logan C by a score of 2&1 - this was a close match that came down to the 17 hole. A special note of mention is that Own B played the back nine solo as his teammate had to leave the match due to a work conflict - well Played Owen.
Team Placement: 3rd place (2 shots from 2nd, 16 shots from 1st)
Individual Placements:
Ryan V: T-3rd
Matthew V: T-12th
Asa W: T-17th
Owen B: T-20th
Jeffrey Solcum: 46th
Notes: Everyone on the team show their average (+/- 1 shot) - Mission accomplished!

Brad is a Chief rules official with the Colorado Golf Association. He visited us last week and talked to the team about the rules of golf, how to apply them and shared many stories and experiences.
This week we had our first one-on-one meeting between coaches and students. We reviewed their team and personal goals and set a short term goal, one that will get them closer to their larger goal. We will revisit this in a couple of weeks.
We played our first practice round at Broadlands Golf course Thursday 8/13. We had a fun game of foursome flight best ball. Team 1 (Coach Elliot, Owen B, Asa W, Matthew V) shot a 76. Team 2 (Coach Ricardo, Ryan, Will, Matthew G) shot a 71. A fun fact about this round: The student players carried their respective team as the coaches (both of them) had the worst rounds of golf in recent history. Lesson learned: No individual is charged with the success of the team, it's the team that will prevail as a group :)
Playing Golf is not about hitting it hard, or far - it's about hitting mostly straight and knowing you are never out of the hole.
I remember a saying Walter Hagen used to say: "Now what you have to understand is that three bad shots and one good shot still make par. You see, golf is the game of recovery."
Playing Golf is about reacting appropriately in every situation, whether good or bad, and knowing that a disproportionate reaction will not win you the game but it may very well lose it for you.
Playing Golf is about course management, process, patience and perseverance: Always play smart golf.
Know that weather its a day at the driving range, a hole in a course, an upcoming tournament, a meeting with your teacher or something as simple as as phone call: Make a plan before you start - all it takes is 30 seconds.
